Job Description

Tews Company has partnered with a faith-based organization in the downtown Orlando area with an opening for a Senior Accountant. This is an important role within the organization and has the ability to turn into a Controller role one day.

REQUIREMENTS:
•    Bachelor’s degree in accounting
•    2 to 4 years of experience in an accounting role
•    Heavy journal entry, reconciliations, and reporting experience.
•    Knowledge of MS Office including proficiency in Excel and Word
•    Knowledge of Financial Edge software or other general ledger software (being tech savvy is a plus);

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
•    Reviews accounts payable, cash receipts transactions, and standardized journal entries prepared by the Staff Accountant.
•    Maintains proper controls over cash collections, bank payments, and updates as needed.
Coordinates processes and information between internal roles as well as diocesan departments and entities as needed.
•    In a timely manner performs complex monthly bank account, credit card, and campaign liability account reconciliations, including accruals and closing journal entries, of balance sheet and income statement accounts and researches and resolves discrepancies.
•    Assists in the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements.
•    Reviews entry and preparation of check requests completed by Staff Accountant for incoming accounts payable invoices.
•    Maintains fixed asset records, including labeling all purchased assets, assigning proper depreciation methods, and recording journal entries for acquisition and associated expenses.
•    Assists Foundation team with monthly payroll labor allocations and prepares resulting journal entries.
•    Assists the Vice President, CFO in annual audit preparation, including preparation of requested audit schedules, footnotes, disclosures and other materials.
•    Assists the Vice President, CFO and President, CEO with other Foundation infrastructure development, ad-hoc reporting and internal control assessment, as needed.
•    Assists the Vice President, CFO with planning of cash flow with projections/forecasts for existing and new programs.
•    Assists the Vice President, CFO in creating materials for the Board of Directors, Committees, Advisory Councils and Members.
•    Assists the Vice President, CFO in the preparation of year-end reporting and financial statements, gathering annual report information and preparation of the organization’s IRS 990.
•    Continuously improves operations by analyzing results, monitoring variances, identifying trends and recommending actions to management.
•    Assists Controller with fund management monthly closing of fund system, including allocation of monthly investment return, distributions, fee assessments and communication with partners and donors.
•    Assists Foundation team with budget activity, proper expenditure coding, appropriate expense allocations, KPI and budget variance analyses, and other accounting-related activities.
•    Collaborates with Accounting and Finance Team and other staff as needed to perform tasks.
•    Contributes to organizational policy development and update of process and workflow documentation and training materials.
•    Ensures accounting systems and functions are maintained.
•    Gains and maintains knowledge of GAAP, FASB and specific non-profit accounting standards. Stays current with market research, data mining and business benchmarking.
•    Maintains confidentiality of financial, contract and donor information.

SALARY RANGE: $60-70k
