Tews Company is currently recruiting for a Staff Accountant.  This is a direct hire position with excellent benefits!

The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing and posting journal entries, analyzing and reconciling accounts, ensuring the proper recording of revenue and expenses, generating reports and conducting special accounting projects as required, working within the limits of the established policy. Ability to research and prepare variety of tax returns for multiple states/municipalities. Establishes own standards of performance with direct accountability for meeting key deadlines monthly and quarterly as required.

Primary Functions: 

  • Review, reconcile and record revenue and expense transactions ensuring accuracy and proper recording of revenue in accordance with GAAP and company policy
  • Properly record and account for accruals, deferrals and prepaid accounts
  • Prepare multi-state sales and use tax returns and tangible property tax returns
  • Organize and establish tasks to prepare and file variety of tax returns
  • Compile and analyze complex financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts
  • Reconcile subsidiary ledgers to the general ledger accounts
  • Analyze more complex accounts to ensure that transactions have been accurately coded and recorded and to identify, investigate, resolve or report on activity that may be unexpected
  • Support the department and the organization through research, investigation and resolution of defined issues and problem solving with internal and external customers
  • Prepare any range of recurring and special reports, gather, extract data from accounting and database systems, analyze and present data to company’s management
  • Research tax citations to support sales, use and personal property tax reporting
  • Analyze, investigate and document business unit performance including revenue, cost of goods sold and inventory fluctuations
  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements
  • Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies
    Provide administrative support including the preparation of spreadsheets

Required Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting required
  • Three to Five years general ledger accounting experience in both medium to large size corporation and public accounting environments
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) advanced proficiency
  • JD Edwards experience preferred
  • Special projects and/or project management experience beneficial
  • Strong organizational skills along with effective time management skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer focused; team oriented

  • The Company will make a matching contribution equal to 100% of your salary contribution that you make up to the first 3% of your compensation and then 50% of your compensation that you contribute between 3% and 5% of your compensation. Outstanding Paid Time Off (PTO)- Full Time (40+ hrs)

  • New hire through three (3) years – accrual up to 120 hrs per year

  • Part Time Accrual on a prorated basis for 24 hours/week and above.
